I thought the same thing. The kid panicked and ran. Tran kills him a short time later including shooting up the Jetta. Hard to believe that Tran thought that was the only solution, but I guess Tran was just a flaming asshole through the whole movie.
and why didn't someone just enter some retarded foxbody mustang built on the cheap that ran 8's. did race wars have to be import cars/motors?
I wondered that as well. I guy I know has a son who used to run an old Fox Mustang coupe that he put a 351 in with pistons, cam, aluminum heads, big carb, and a stroker kit (408?). Supposedly ran low 10s just motor and gears and all in about $10K including the car. I imagine a spray would have knocked a second or more off it, assuming the motor could handle it.

pro : your V8s have a little more cubic inches
con : you dont seem to be able to get a corresponding amount of power out of said V8
con : your cars are all giant steel whales that weigh many tons.

The original question is whether the cars in these races are limited to the small imports, so we are wondering if *any* car can be entered, including V8s. You seem to be discounting the ridiculous torque a V8 provides, and provides it with much less effort and much cheaper than a highly tuned small displacement engine.
