More movies like this please :)

I am very picky when it comes to movies in general, and horror movies in specific. I spend as much time choosing my watchlist as I spend watching movies themselves :)

The problem is, hardly any movie gives me a scare. The only horror movies I like are "The Others", "The Conjuring", "Occulus" and "The Ring 1". The kind that builds up, and usually features spirits or souls. I hate all the horror movies which depend on gore, screaming and killing. I hated "The Cabin In The Woods", "Psycho" and "Mirrors". I also hate movies featuring serial killers or psychologically disturbed people killing others then calling these movies horror. They do not belong in the horror category, for me at least.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Thank you :)

The Exorcist & Paranormal Activity(the first one).

I would have to say the The Sixth Sense. Like you, I'm not a fan of gore. I like a great plot. Some of the Japanese horror are very good as well, if you don't mind reading subtitles.

I would have to say the The Sixth Sense

I agree it has a similar story

reply

Only rednecks hate subtitles.

Or people who don’t just sit and stare at the screen through the whole film. I am usually busy with something else at the same time that I am “watching” the movie, so subtitles don’t work very well for me. Get off your high horse.

Why are you watching a movie then? You know you are suppose to watch the screen;-) ever heard of podcasts if you do not have time to look:-)

If you are a fan of "The Others" then check out the Kickstater to my thesis film, "Occam's Razor." It's in the vein and has a similar tone. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1235040624/occams-razor-a-usc-thesis-film?ref=nav_search

Where can one watch this film today?

When the twist was revealed in The Others I immediately thought of The Sixth Sense. Even better than The Others (and The Others was great) with a similar theme. (Anything more and I'll spoil it)

Like a bird on the wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir, I have tried in my way to be free

1. The Innocents (1961)
2. The Changeling (1980)
3. Tale of Two Sisters. (Janghwa, Hongryeon (2003)
4. The Haunting (1963)
4. Shutter (2004)
5. Ju-on (2002)

YOU SAY I TO ME...

So glad to see someone else likes The Changeling. Talk about gooseflesh!

Same Here!!
The Other 1972
The Haunting of Julia 1977
Voices 1973 (awesome)
Haunted 1995
Haunter 2013 a little campy but great 80s house and setting.

1408 the movie pales in comparison with Stephen King's story. I believe he even said he didn't like it. I can't understand why they drop the ball so much with SK's stories. There are a few that got it right, but not many. I hated the movie so much that I gave it away to someone without a second thought.

The Innocents
Don't Look Now
Full Circle

All three are similar to each other in the sense that the creepiness grows slowly and steadily and stays with you long before the movie ends. SPOILER: The later two are poignant in the sense that both films have a tragic undercurrent of death, particularly the premature death of a child that adds to the creepiness and overall sense of doom & finality. Must say, all three are full on horror with no digressions of humor to lighten the mood.

Did anyone mention Sinister yet? This movie was spooky and very original.
