Needs a Blu-ray release pronto

This is one of my favorite horror movies. No joke. I saw it years ago, rented the VHS from a video store when I was like 12 maybe. It made an impression on me, and parts of it genuinely scared me. Later that year my mom bought me the DVD for my birthday, and I've kept it ever since.

It's a weird movie that is not entirely cohesive, but the concepts are great and it has one of the most unsettling atmospheres of any horror film post-2000. Super underrated. I'm hoping and praying that it gets a Blu-ray release here soon, maybe with the director's cut on it. I was watching the DVD last week and noticed how crappy the picture was. I know it's a widely hated film, but it needs to get a new release because it does have a group of dedicated fans— plus, I'd love to see what the original cut of the film looked like before Artisan butchered it.

I wish Scream Factory could get their hands on the original cut.

Yes, and I'd like to see any deleted scenes. It's not a widely known fact, but Mary Brown from the first film was supposed to have a cameo in this movie. (Here is a picture of her on set: http://imgur.com/45BXviZ.jpg)

Also I swear I could hear her voice say "I'm warning you" at 4:02 in this video which features on set footage from the movie and cast interviews. Also you can hear a woman saying "Let's say Rosemary's where Mary Brown is" at 4:30:

I would absolutely love to see whatever footage was shot with her in it was she was my favorite character in the first movie. I'd also like to know what else they deleted. It needs to get a new release with the original cut and great extras. I know I'd be interested in buying it and I'm sure many others would as well. It wasn't as good as the first movie but it's still worthwhile so I don't know why they are trying to pretend it never existed.

Yes, there was a scene with Mary in one of the early drafts of the script. But in the script they meet her in the cemetery when they go pick up Kim, in this picture looks like they bump into her when they stop at the grocery store after the cemetery.

I know, a DC would be great. Joe Berlinger's original idea consisted of making this a more psychological/ambiguous film. I think that would make it far more scary. I'll start soon to develop a fanedit to try to recreate something close of what Joe's cut would be. If you guys have any suggestions, I'm all ears.

With a new Blair Witch movie coming, maybe they will finally release it on bluray

I just bought that DVD you mentioned above and yeah, it could use an upgrade! Although on my TV it still looked pretty good with the 4K upscaler in my BR player but the transfer is still dated. Not too bad for an early 2000's DVD and you get that CD soundtrack on side 2 of the disc! Scream Factory or Arrow should rerelease this but I don't think there is enough demand for it as not very many people like it, it's a very niche film nowadays. Man, could that Wiccan chick be any hotter? Holy shit!

Agreed 100%.. the fact it's only had one DVD release in 2000 and nothing since then is just a disgrace. I know the critics and die hards didn't love it but this movie has it's fanbase and they deserve better. You can't even get the DVD off Amazon now it's ridiculously high. I got lucky in 2014 and found mine at a 2nd hand thrift store for cheap but I just got lucky.

This movie would be perfect for Scream Factory.. they need to reestablish theirselves as Arrow is gaining momentum on them.. they need to do a contract with Lionsgate. They could do director's cuts for this and The Crow City of Angels and do some badass releases for Drive Angry and American Psycho and they would do better than what Lionsgate is doing.. hope it happens. We all deserve better.

I'm still waiting. Now it not only needs a Blu-ray release, but also a 4K release. Perhaps a Blu-ray/4K combo pack. And with next year being the 25th anniversary of the first film, this is a perfect time for re-releases of the original 2. To celebrate 25 years of The Blair Witch.

And Scream Factory has released other movies that are more hated than this such as Psycho (1998), Exorcist II: The Heretic, Creepshow III, etc. Lionsgate must not be interested in it or else I think Scream Factory would've done it already.
