I know its not revealed how Erica is killed (which in itself seems kinda weird),
but does anyone else think she was strangled?

We see the *red ring* around her neck, it appeared she might have strangled by her own necklace...and the petechiae in her eyes?

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?

Makes sense! Also remember she told Kim they brought something back with them and it felt like it was choking her or something like that?

Whoa, good catch!

I remember Erica saying that line earlier in the film, but somehow did not connect it to what appeared to be the way she died.

Well done. 
