Far more intelligent than it's given credit for

I just re-watched this movie from beginning to end last night (I haven't seen it in full in years), and it was truly even better than I remembered it. Atmospherically, it's terrifying, but the writing is actually smart—the entire play on delusion and hysteria is well-written and clever. Not to mention the acting is really believable as well. I still don't understand why so many people are compelled to call it "the worst movie ever made," etc., etc. I feel like that's a knee-jerk reaction just because of the fact that it's a sequel to The Blair Witch Project, which was of course ingenious. This film may not have been quite ingenious, but it's damn good.

I agree. I decided to watch this movie not expecting it to be very good, because of the bad reviews. Needless to say it surpassed my expectations. More than anything the plot was very intriguing, and the characters were believable. Good movie.

Completely agree. And I don't think it has to do with the fact that it's a sequel to BWP, since there's a sequel coming up later this year and people seem pretty excited about it. I've seen the trailer and it's pretty much a remake of the first film with more characters and a more obvious scare factor (I'd expect some CGI as well).
At least this sequel tried to create something new and expand the original idea. And yes, the actors were pretty good. Ironically, my two favorite actors (Stephen and Tristen) completely disappeared after this film. Jeffrey and Erica are the ones I see the most.

That's when people started hating sequels because they weren't exactly like the original. if you really read the books and all that stuff, it all fits and is great

I agree too, its a decent film that pushed the mythology into new territory, the extra documentary on the supposed origin of this film just adds weight to the overall Blair Witch story itself.. Loved it.

I've always thought it was better since I saw it in theaters. The first one relies too much on s gimmick and doesn't really hold up too well. It's just long and meandering, and nothing really happens. I just love the idea of the sequel much better. Just a shame the studio went in and recut it more to their liking.

Don't give up the fight for truly independent cinema!

I agree, it could've been a much better film without the studio interference. I'm trying to create a fanedit, cutting all the gore and the obvious scares to keep the film more dubious and psychological, like the director originally intended.

"Relies on gimmicks"???? What gimmicks?

This movie presented a rather believable picture of the media hysteria that surrounded Blair Witch Project. That's one positive thing about this movie. But frankly, that is the only positive thing. Everything in this movie that is related to horror or acting is on the level of the cheapest b-movie.

I liked this movie when I first saw it and I actually find it scarier than the first one, only because the idea of doing all that stuff killing all those people and not knowing it freaked me out. It was just a Twilight Zone nightmare they couldn't wake up from.

1. BVS 2. TWS 3. Avengers
