Any other heist films of this type?

I say "of this type" because this film is quite different from most "heist" films out there. Specifically because it's a serious drama, and hardly comedic like Ocean's 11, The Italian Job, or Blue Streak. Besides those three I can't name another film that regards burglary, master thieves, and high-tech tools of the trade. I'd say The Thomas Crown Affair, but that's more about love than robbery.

Any ideas? Has this really been a subject in Hollywood that has gone untapped?

LOSE means to come to be without, LOOSE means not bound together. Get it right.

Have you seen Heat (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113277/)?

reply

Yes, but that's straight up armed robbery. Not intelligent thief.

reply

What do you mean not intelligent thief?!!!! A part of the reason why "Heat" is such a classic of the genre is because Mann does a superb job of showing how "job" is executed, from planning to the getaway. DeNiro's crew is tight, each possessing his own talent while also tending to the more mundane aspects of life, like family and dating. No offense, but if you didn't see the brilliance of the characters, you were watching a different movie.

reply

Don't get me wrong, it was a fantastic movie, but I don't think it falls into the same kind of robbery as The Score does.

You need to calm the *beep* down.

Most of the best heist movies were made in the '40s and '50s, the greatest example of which being The Asphalt Jungle, in my opinion.

TOPKPI(1964) directed by Jules Dassin, who also directed the classic heist film RIFIFI. It starred Maximillian Schell, Melina Mecouri, Akim Tamiroff, Robert Morley, and Peter Ustinov, who was so good he won an Oscar. Topkapi is a world class museum located in Turkey.

Heist movies don't get any better than TOPKAPI (1964). Every heist film made since then owes a debt to that film. It has some comedic parts to it, but still a great film.

RIFIFFI (same director as TOPKAPI) is a little more serious. ASPHALT JUNGLE (previously mentioned in another post) is another great heist film.

Inside Man with Denzel Washington was a heist film.

Check out:

Sneakers
Flawless (2007)
The Lookout
Foolproof
The Bank Job

All of them have their moments, but Sneakers is still my favorite heist movie ever. It is somewhat light-hearted, but there are a few tense moments. Very entertaining! Great cast as well.

Well, it's not of this type, but it's definitely still worth mentioning:

Dog Day Afternoon
