Am I the only one who liked this movie?

I'm a hardcore fan of the original Halloween series of movies (I can't stand the two Rob Zombie films) and although none of the sequels stand up to the original movie I enjoy watching the entire series. I found Halloween: Resurrection creepier than H20 (though I also enjoyed that film) and rank it as one of the better sequels along with Halloween 4. Sure, the way in which they resurrect Michael is ridiculous but, as Roddy McDowall said, as long as the movie works for me, I'll enjoy it. Take Escape from the Planet of the Apes. A ridiculous premise for how they continued the series but on its own merits it ranks with the original POTA as one of the best of the series.
P.S. I also enjoyed Halloween III: Season of the Witch, though it had nothing to do with Michael Myers. The only part of the original series I thought was beyond belief terrible was the sixth film, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.

I really liked this movie too. And yeah I thought Halloween: Resurrection was creepier than H20.

I really dont understand all the hate for this movie. Busta Rhymes aside I think its great, probably my fave of all the sequels. It has a great atmosphere and I love how the whole movie is set inside the Myers house.

Sorry, could not get behind this film. It's main problem from the getgo is that it should not have even existed. H20 was a far step up from several of its predecessors. Wnot the strongest in tone/atmosphere it brought things back to basics but also managed to give Laurie Strode a good character arc and a thrilling final confrontation between her and Michael. Managing to face her fears and destroy them before it took away everything she cared about. RESURRECTION basically slaps all that in the face. I found the concept to be trying way to hard to be "modern" with the reailty show, and all of the times they have to reference more modern things like texting. Not to mention I didn't find that cast that interesting at all. And I didn't think it was creepier than any of the previous films. And personally consider it the worst of any HALLOWEEN movie. And yes I'm including CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS and the Rob Zombie pictures.

Can I get any enjoyment out of it? Kind of if I'm in the mood to laugh at something so-bad-its-funny. (ala BATMAN & ROBIN). As much as it is a slap in the face to the character, the sight of Busta Rhymes karate kicking Michael out a window or bursting through a door and saying "Trick or Treat Mother..." is just too hilarious not to get at least slightly amused. So in my mind as a pardoy of a HALLOWEEN film it is kind of watchable. I want it known that I'm not trying to knock anyone who likes this film. I'm just stating my opinion.

I liked it.

No, I like it. Its not the best in the series, but i actually found it more enjoyable than H20.

reply

I get it's your opinion and that's all good and well. But I feel compelled to ask. How is it more enjoyable than H20?

reply

Its just an all around funner movie to watch. I understand all the hate towards it, but i just felt H20 was a bit bland, and lacking. Thats just me though :)

H20 was okay, and like 3, I've grown to like it better after more viewings, but H20 really tried to hard to be a Scream clone instead of a Halloween film with the score, the casting. Resurrection felt more like a Halloween film, with faults, casting Busta, Tyra, Thomas Ian Nicholas as a horndog, etc. The dialog. The things Res. did right, better score, better Michael, taking it back to Haddonfield, the webcam story.

No more a SCREAM clone than most of the other sequels were FRIDAY THE 13TH clones. That's me saying even though all of the sequels had borrowed elements from at least one of their parent film's imitator franchises, I wouldn't call any of them a clone.

If you look at the shift from Halloween Curse to H20, you'd understand. I call H20 a Scream clone because it had the same writer, Kevin Williamson, had a clip of 2 as an "homage" I suppose, used Marco Beltrami's score, who also did the Scream scores. John Ottman's stuff was rarely used. Res. had none of those things.

I get why it is called a SCREAM clone. I just do not find it to be one. The only thing within the film itself that wasn't just a cosmetic comparison like the score is the way the teenagers talked was very SREAM-esque. The other films did things like give Michael a bigger more Jason-esque build, made the films more gory, gave Michael much more over-the-top kills compared to the more grounded ones in the original film, etc. While they adapted elements from other horror franchises (that had started out inspired by the original HALLOWEEN) I would call none of them a clone.

It's a decent slasher film. But in terms of the 'Halloween' sequels it's probably the "weakest" imo

reply

It is very weak acting is awfull and it's not as good as h20 it's the weakest alone with 5 for me even 3 is better.

reply

I don't get the hate at all. It sucks that Laurie Strode died, but other than that, I really like it. The idea of being trapped in Michael's house is intriguing to me.

Although I respect people's opinions, about liking this Movie, I for one cannot stand it.

The only part I enjoy is the opening scene, and even that I have a little bit of gripe with.

Plus any scene with Busta Rhymes in just gives me an aneurysm.
In particular the end scene, where he pretty much whoops Michael's @ss.
Also the scene where he's dressed as Michael Myers, I get that it's suppose to be funny, and the first time it was. But Michael Myers wouldn't just stand there, and take any BS from Busta Rhymes, he'd just stab him there and then.

This film also makes the ending to Halloween H20 complete BS as well, and also makes Jamie Lee Curtis a moron for not taking Michael's Mask off, before she decapitates him.
