I'm still waiting on a sequel to this.

I think it would be pretty rude if they don't make a sequel to this and I'm curious if you think it'll happen eventually because I think it will.

reply

It would be nice, but doubtful. It's been 13 years. If this new film is unsuccessful, maybe. Although there wasn't much left other than Freddie and Sara and neither really are worth it or could carry another movie.

You'll be waiting a very very long time. I've never seen any studio make a sequel to the original films once the first film is remade, never. As much as I'd love sequels to all the original series of horror films from the 80s, it will never happen.

They can, however, do like TCM 3D, The Town that Dreaded Sundown and Halloween Returns and make a sequel that connects to a previous one, only a bit further back. Halloween Returns takes place 18 years after the events of Halloween and Halloween II, both of which were set in 1978, so none of the other sequels, 4-8 count.

When Halloween Returns is released, I'm going to count it as a "sequel" to Resurrection.

reply

I'm not sure. This movie and Halloween H20 ignored Parts 4-6 so perhaps if a sequel were to be released it would ignore some of the films as well. The most recent Halloween film was released in 2009 and although it wasn't a Godzilla sized success it at least made a little bit of money. I think another film is conceivable. There have been gaps between entries in horror franchises much longer than this. It took 13 years for Exorcist III to be released after Exorcist II, 12 years for Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, 9 years for Curse of Chucky to be released after Seed, and 9 years for Freddy vs. Jason after New Nightmare. There has even been a gap of 37 years between The Wicker Man and The Wicker Tree! So I think another Halloween film will be released eventually, I just don't know when or what it will be about.

Although I really do enjoy Rob Zombie's Halloween II I can understand why it would be a bit hard to follow. It was so off-the-wall crazy and bonkers that I can see why nobody knows where to go from there. I personally think that they could follow the theatrical ending and Laurie would be sent to a lunatic asylum, having completely lost touch with reality. Then Michael would follow her there and start butchering all the crazy people. But that'll probably never happen either.

reply

Sadly, Halloween films follow actual dates. Resurrection was dated 3 years after H20. Meaning Michael would be 44 in that one. Now he'd be even older. Going back in time, especially now with Returns set in stone as 18 years after the 1978 killings, isn't really an option any more. Death row all that time, when H20 and Res. contradict that.

Stuck with this, as it seems, so no Res. sequel unless Returns flops. Even then, a bit of a stretch. John and Molly? Sara and Freddie no one wants. Complete strangers? Not sure where a post-Res. movie would go.

I think they should just let this series die! Michael is like 65 years old now, just let the man retire in a beach house in Florida.

I would have preferred the story to follow johns wanting revenge against Laurier death, restablsih the events of the 4-6 in continuity and a massive coverup by the thorn cult as to why h20 made no reference to those films, John finding out Jamie is his sister and discovering his nephew Stephen.

Do any of you honestly believe that there is any demand for a sequel that incorporates this disaster? And do what, bring back Busta Rhymes? Get your head examined. This slap in the face is absolutely reviled. It ain't gonna happen. Not now, not ever. If I could I'd bury every copy of this movie in the desert.

reply

I wouldn't go as far as burning copies. It had it's high points, the dark style, the score, JLC, all the hot women, a pretty decent Michael, but I digress.

14 years later, there is no way a sequel will ever come to light. Too unliked and far removed from people's memories to care. And yes, Freddie and Sara could not carry another film. A remake, it's sequel and a new unrelated to anything (so far) movie is in the works. It's too late. Nowhere to go really, without Hartnett and Williams and they're never coming back.

So yes, time to Let Ir Go.

Well, with Carpenter executive producing it (I assume he still is) it has a shot at being good. One last hurrah for Michael. Loomis and Laurie are dead movie wise and it's time to ride off into the sunset and not end up like Resurrection or Halloween II 2009. Anything would be better than those.
