10) Halloween: Resurrection- after a step back in the right direction with H20, the series took a huge mis-step with this silly festival of cliches and awfulness. From a laughable retcon that tried to justify the ending of H20 as having not been what we thought, to the ludicrous "reality show" idea that not only was corny, but also dates the movie, to the lame humor and all-around awful performances, this is the worst. It's still worth checking out for laughs, but nothing more. I'd give it a 3.5 out of 10.
9) Halloween III: Season of the Witch- an utterly forgettable movie that borrows the series name but not characters for a corny tale about a company that plans on killing children with Halloween masks, and features all sorts of oddball robots and effects and whatnot. Lame movie. 4.0 out of 10.
8) Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers- Psychics, mysteries and retcons... Oh, my! Corny but it has its moments, this is one of the weaker entries. 4.5 out of 10.
7) Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers- While it is arguably the most "out-there" entry, for some reason I found this entertaining. Yeah, it wasn't good, but it was adequate and from what I've heard, the fabled Producer's Cut is much better. 5.0 out of 10 strictly for entertainment value.
6) Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers- an unneeded return movie that I personally didn't like, but will admitt sets the stage for future installments quite nicely. 5.0 out of 10.
5) Rob Zombie's Halloween 2- Nowhere near as bad as it's being made out to be. Entertaining but a little "blah" at times, I'm going to reserve judgement until the DVD comes out, because just seeing it in theaters gives me the feeling there's a Director's Cut. Michael is insane in this one, and it deffinitly has my favorite kills of the series thus far. A 7.0 out of 10 just for entertainment value.
4) Halloween II- Great sequel. Really built on the foundation of the original, though there were some obvious problems here and there. It worked for what it was, and very easilly could have ended the series. 7.5 out of 10
3) Halloween H20: 20 Years Later- After the mistakes of III-VI, this film really returned the series to its roots, and delivered what was at the time a very satisfying conclusion to the saga. 8.0 out of 10
2) Rob Zombie's Halloween- A very interesting way to reboot the series, Rob Zombie's film was shocking, entertaining and took the series in a new direction, without disregarding or bringing shame to the original. While some fans have the "it sucks simply because it isn't the original" mentality, this is still a movie not to miss. I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10.
1) Halloween- The original... the best... need I say more? It really set the stage for a new wave of horror entertainment and arguably single-handedly birthed the modern slasher-genre. Perfectly written, masterfully directed... this movie just hits all the buttons correctly.
