Why did Michael give the knife to that clown guy?

I was not really paying close attention to everythign going on when I watched that scene but was Michael trying to pin the murder of Laurie on that guy dressed as a clown when he handed him the knife, OR was he really giving it to him to add to his collection?

Create a society in which you would like to live, not knowing what you're going to come into it as.

More than likely to pin it on him. The guy was a serial killer encyclopedia in a mental institution. Blaming him for Laurie's death wouldn't be too far a stretch.

why would michael care if people thought he killed laurie? its not like he's worried about a murder charge at this point in his career. i think he was just giving a souvenir to the kid. kind of saying forget the other killers , heres a souvenir from the best.

Because in H2 they never found his body, they knew in H20 he wasn't beheaded and he'd been living underneath his own house for over 20 years. Michael's sister dies, he's the first suspect. Back to the house, find his hiding place, Michael loses his home as a hiding place. If people think the already institutionalized serial killer encyclopedia did it, then they would be thrown off the scent. A copycat.

I don't think Michael did care. It's more of a callback to the director's previous movie in the series "Halloween II" where Michael wanders into a house and then leaves without killing the inhabitants. We expect Michael to kill everyone, but he's not Jason Vorhees. Sometimes he just lets people live.

Plus it was cool to start the movie with the inmate at the asylum listing all of Michael's kills from previous movies in the series.

I believe it signaled he accomplished what he set out to do...I mean after he killed her what else would be the point. He then went home for good until they invaded his home with "dangertainment".

He knew the dude in the clown mask was obsessed with serial killers, including himself. He gave him the knife as a souvenir of the event. Sometimes Michael lets people live if he has no beef with them, killing them serves no purpose or perhaps he feels they're not worth bothering with. Like the Elrods in H2 and the babies in the hospital. Also the security guard in H2O. He just ignores them and goes on about his business. There's a method to his madness. Sometimes.

Isn't it so he can disappear again?
A scapegoat was handy and have him a head start.

I thought it was because Micheal was able to relate to him on some level. He saw the guy wearing a clown mask who was obsessed with killers. Also, Michael knew the guy was a fan of his, so I think it was just Michael's way of saying "here you go man", kind of like a person meeting a celebrity they like.

I also think Michael enjoys killing the people that fear him. He has no beef with someone who understands his madness in one way or another. Just by the way he kills, he seems to get off on people's fear. Since the clown mask guy was fascinated by Michael, Michaels' psyche saw him as more "on the same level" and part of him respected him.

I might be thinking too deep about this, but I really love this scene. Best part in the film.

He never spoke to Michael. Doubtful he heard what was said by Harold or that he even cared. My theory remains that Michael framed Harold for the murder, that way no one would come looking for Michael.

Jesus...I always assumed it's cause fatass was wearing an IDENTICAL mask to the one he wore when he was six.

Shocked no-one at all noticed.

reply

I didn't notice that at all, no one else did either!

But I think you are spot-on with that explanation.

Okay then...it could have been that I had the misfortune to watch Resurrection on that very day.

reply

I think the knife was out of bullets, so he let the kid have it.
