If you were in that position wouldn't you at least kinda try to fight back? Like try to get to get around him(there was some room to) or maybe try to get low fast and tackle him.
shareFear will lock you up sometimes. Especially when you have a sharp pointy thing aimed at you. It wouldn't have mattered as Michael would've simply overpowered him and killed him anyway. It was filmed that way to build tension, with Nora missing the kill and then not realizing he was dead. Another issue is lack of blood. You penetrate someone's throat, there's going to be blood, but there was none. So that was a bit off, but for the sake of the movie, it had to be that way.
