What happens in the beginning

I actually watch this film for the second time, but I've never seen the beginning.
What happens there? I started to watch when the sub moves to the water surface; please tell me what happens before and how it was show/acted in the movie.
Thank you!

I've only seen it once before and that was six years ago. But here's what I remember.

The first few minutes of Part One show a series of Australian news broadcasts. These outline China's invasion of Taiwan, the escalating crisis, interviews with American politicians threatening to take action, (the kind of rhetoric that was used just before Iraq was invaded in 2003) red alerts, footage of missiles being launched, air raid sirens blaring, and finally a huge mushroom cloud. Then the words "On the Beach" come on the screen. That scientist played by Bryan Brown was living alone on an island before he got picked up by an American submarine. When the submarine reaches Australian waters some of the locals aren't too pleased to see it. They hurl beer cans at the sailors. "Well, you did blow up the world", Bryan Brown says.
