Is this anything like the original film?

Is this TV original anything like the film that came out with Gregory Peck? Please say yes. Do not say "no". If you say "no", explain yourself.

Yes, in the sense the same general plot is followed...but updated technology-wise. Several of the characters are Very foul-mouthed. And Towers stays with Moira in this one...

Yes. The characters have the same names. The submarine has the same name. And the movie has the same title. If you're not easily bored, you can read my comments on both. Or better still watch both movies. Better yet; read the book by Neville Shute, available in paperback for less than the price of a DVD.
