voice

I love Rachel Ward and I love husky voices but I have to say I find her deep voice distracting.

I know this was posted a long time ago but I'm knew here and thought I'd comment on this anyway. I liked her voice, but thought the clicking noises her mouth made frequently were distracting lol.

Alas it's the curse of the cross-Pacific accent. A risk always in these Australian-US co-productions.

Rachel Ward had obviously been away from home for some time and was unable to shake her slight Californian drawl. Listen to Simon Baker and Julian McMahon when they come back to Oz as well. It's always distracting to hear long expated Australians refamilizarising themselves with their native patois -
their naturally flat and curt antipodean/bostonian 'a' stubbornly refuse to relax back from the Californian 'er' ('worker', 'car' et al). Big contrast with hubby Bryan.

There are also some Australian actors playing US submariners and - it must be admitted - a little hammy acting by locals (the looting youth who says to Grant Bowler 'what are you lookin' at? for instance.)

This is all just nitpicking however. ON THE BEACH is a solid production with an impressive visual component too. Director Russell Mulcahy rarely falters.
