WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE HATE THIS MOVIE?

i wouldnt say i particually like "loser" but i dont hate it, its like the "average" teen movie, and despite how much this movie has in common to all other teen movies, this one has to be the most picked on, why? what does this movie lack that the others dont?

i luv freddy kruger

I love this movie, it's like my very teen movie! Its so cute!

Just curious, if "IMDB sucks" then how come your here?

Courtney Love- poor Kurt Cobain

reply

I think alot of people hate this movie cause it actually carries a postive message. I liked it. I thought it was cool how they didn't make it seem stupid that Jason does the right thing through like the entire movie. I thought it was really good.

reply

I thought this film was quite good. There was nothing particularly bad about it, it just didn't really keep me gripped but I can see why others liked it. The storyline was unlike in other teen movies such as the American Pie films which I did think was good as it made the film more unique and unpredictable. I liked the general plot of the film and thought the acting was good.

reply

A teenager when i saw this film i never understood why it was hated

but what differs it from other teen movies
1. Paul a nice guy and a loser succeeds
usually a people like his room mates are winners

2. no sex scenes or sexual themes (teens today are very sex orientated (britney spears its your fault the new idol of teenagers (a porn star at 15 and Toxic video clip speaks for itself))

3. It is more a romance drama, but it was promoted as a comedy (wasnt very funny so was thought a bad movie by those looking for a comedy)

I loved it, it reminded me that being a nice guy will always encounter critcism and obstacles, but at the end of the day Nice Guys dont always finish last

i dunno why people hate this film so much either. Its not my sort of film at all, but i've got it n it sits lonley and scared inbetween my Italian horror collection, n i've watched it nuff times. Is it the story? possibly. but more than likely to be the fact that Mena Suvari looking so phuqing hot in it. The film being OK is a bonus to that i guess. ;)

reply

You are *beep* right!! Never guy may finish last sometimes, but in the end they always win!! This film is a great great great... I don't know, It means very much to me.

reply

I agree with what you said about the movie, especially how it was mis-promoted, but I gotta raise the B.S. flag for what you said about Britney.

Teens have been obsessed with sex long before Britney, trust me on this one. Teenagers have always been obsessed with sex and always will be. Why? Because of puberty and the fact that they're finally approaching a time when they'll actually have sex.

For further proof, check out Amy Heckerling's Fast Times At Ridgemont High, a movie that pissed off a lot of parents at the time because of its portrayl of teenagers who didn't care about school, just doing drugs and getting laid. All before Britney.

reply

Oh, I hated Fast Times. My World History teacher said that it was the most accurate portrayal of teenage life. Well, she was right. I don't hang out with those type of people, they just scream disgusting. The only parts I liked were Spinelli's bits (sp?)

So true, I think the sex teens themed films started in the 70s, long before Spears.

I don't know why people hate this movie so much either. I love it, I am a sucker for teen movie though. My two all time favorites are Down To You, with Freedie Prinze Jr. and Julia Stiles, we happened to pick it up randomly at a Wal*Mart one night, and I was instantly hooked. The other has got to be Boys And Girls, another Freddie Prinze Jr. movie, with Claire Forlani, but it has Jason Biggs as well. All three of these movie are great, especially when you're in the mood for some laughing as well as crying. Ladies grab your guys and cuddle up to watch these movies. My husband is actually a big fan of Down To You as well, and he is so against chick flicks, but these movies have that certin something that make us love them.

reply

I wish I knew what puts so many people off this movie - I saw it at my university's Film Society and was hooked pretty much from the get-go.

But to the so-called professional reviewers who say that the roommates sadism and obsession with hedonism is too far fetched, as a dyed-in-the-wool geek, I can only say: which sports team were you on?

This was a movie where I really felt I could identify with the characters and feelings involved, and I can't say that about many of today's movies that're allegedly for my age group.

I really agree. I identified and involved myself with the characters, watched thousand times, and, just loved it!

People hate this movie because they expected alot more out of it.

Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari were coming off "American Pie" and "American Beauty", and Amy Heckerling directed "Fast Times" and "Clueless", people just expected alot out of this movie, and it didn't deliver.

reply

probably because they are fool or heartless... this movie changed my life, believe... but it dependas on the person

reply

I ordered the DVD, got it coming tomorrow. It sounds cool and I don't care why people may hate it. All I wanted to know is, is it a worthwhile watch, or will I get bored half way throug?

I didn't hate this movie, but I didn't really like it either. I think reaction to a movie has a great deal to do with expectations. This movie seemed to promoted as a teen-comedy along the lines of American Pie, but was more of a geek learn's to stand up for himself and get's the girl teen-drama, sort of like Revenge of the Nerds but with one nerd and no gags or nudity. Dan Ackroyd was a waste in this movie.

I liked this movie, I guess it is a matter of opinion. I think Mena Suvari is so hot in this movie and that is a main reason I bought it, I am a fan of Mena Suvari. The movie was good though, good story and everything.

Opinions are like a$$holes, everyones got one and they all stink!! I heard that somewhere lol.

How did this movie get made? Jesus...

reply

Not sure; I love the movie...I think its a great addition to the Jason Biggs collection. If you like American Pie movies, or Saving Silverman then you should like the movie although its a bit more clean. It has a pretty good cast too. The soundtrack is awesome, but doesn't exist independently..so I just downloaded all the songs and burnt them to a CD as "Loser - The Soundtrack"

Aren't there enough losers on TV already?

reply

I hated it because it was boring, because of the absolutely glaring plot inconsistencies and because of the totally boring anti-climax ending.

reply

I love this movie!

I didn't really care for it when I first saw it. But I spent a year in college in Manhattan and now I love it. I feel just like Paul. My roomates weren't that bad but they were spoiled brats and looked at me odd because I didn't know what "Coach" and "Juicy" were. They thought I was weird because I brought cheap stuff. Unlike them, I'm not growing dollars out of my ass. They had fake ids and brought home beer. I had to go into a stairwell and sit uncomfortably for a few hours to study because my annoying nasal conjested Jersey roomate loved to argue with her boyfriend on the phone every night. I was the only one on the Dean's List. They were rude to the R.A and didn't take school seriously at all. I cleaned up and they were always claiming that I didn't. It was Sex and the City Meets Sanford and Son. They made me feel like pathetic and in the end, made up an excuse so that I couldn't live with them for the next year.

I had just about zero friends and I couldn't afford anything really. I was pretty miserable for the most part. Even the nice people that I did meet, thought I was weird because I couldn't afford to take a taxi everywhere. Apparently they are too good for subways.

The only thing I enjoyed was seeing SNL live, the only reason I moved up there. The city was great and I had fun exploring it, but when your a branded loser with no friends, it really takes a toll.

I transfered back home. And I never saw a Broadway play.
