Why the name change?

Just watched this again tonight and can't help but wonder why Fan was changed to Fran? Not significant but seems nonsensical to make the change.

Also realised the missing scene with the "charity" collectors at the end. This does irk me as it is important to his reformation.

Because 'Fan' or 'Fanny' has an unfortunate slang meaning in English English. Both names are pet forms of 'Frances', so it's not much of a change.

Yes, I think it's a shame the benevolent gentlemen were left out.

Yep I understand the vulgar use of the word but it is the only version that has made this change. To me it seems wrong.

I saw her as Fran in at least one other version.
