6.3 stars????

Now I will say first that I am a white man, 20 years old, and very liberal...

That said, I believe this is by far Spike Lee's best film and beyond that, his best social commentary in his career of directing.

This film is quite possibly one of the best examples of the way Hollywood treats African-Americans in popular media today.

While I do have issues with the writing and editing of the movie, I find this to be an amazing social commentary on both the major networks of the world, the "black" networks that produce their various shows and the entire culture of America and their feelings toward the African-American community as a whole.

This is just a start to a thread. I hope to discuss this much further.

Spike Lee is hated by many IMDB users, so its just something you'll have to live with. This is clearly evident in the posts in the "Do The Right Thing" forum made by angry white kids who were forced to watch the flick in their film studies class.

i have to say, i was on this board a few years ago, and the change in general tone is pretty remarkable. nearly every post back then was, "spike lee is racist."

i love lee, and think this is definitely one of his best, even given its muddled ending (not atypical for him). i was surprised it wasn't more embraced when it was released, and it figured it'd take more time to become better-recognized, which, apparently, has been the case.

This movie is amazingly underrated. 6.3 is not what the movie deserves. Bamboozled is one of the best satirical movies I have ever seen. Maybe most people do not like or understand satire as much as I do.

Agreed!

Yes. Spike Lee has habitually been not very disiplined with the editing side. But his films are still good...though with better editing would be more "appealing". But to be a Lee fan and like his movies I guess most people take on the task of trying to overlook the editing issues and get beyond them.

And I have to say I do agree that Bamboozled is his best piece of work I have seen so far. It's a miserably underrated movie. But I think with the passage of time more people have come to appreciate the truth of this excellent satire movie compared to when it was first released. I loved it from the beginning by the way. It was sad the way it was panned. Obviously the critics either did not understand this movie at all..or just had it in for Spike plain and simple.

I am a white conversitive and gave this movie an 8. Do the Right Thing is my favortie movie from him, but this one comes close. It's real commentary and it doesn't give itself to you with sugar. It's a harsh reality that you are forced to accept and I was able to grow from it. Spike Lee showcases his talents here in this film. I don't know who else was nominated, but I definetly felt he was worthy for an Oscar nomination for best director.

Right now, having just watched this film, I'm not sure where I'll rate it, but it won't be more than five stars. It's just too ragged and uneven, mixed message (didja notice at the end when things went bad the lighting became quite DARK?), and seemed to me somewhat aimless.

I cannot AT ALL buy the premise, nor was Damon Wayans the least bit convincing for the first two-thirds of the film. Also, what is being satirized here is so painfully obvious I just want to slap Spike around and say "We GET IT already!!!"

For my part he's done several better films. Watch "Get On the Bus" for some truly in-depth insight, or "CSA: The Confederate States of America" (which he didn't direct but did "present") for something along similar lines as this.

Ill have to agree. Spike lee may be mislabled by many as racist, but those handing out that label are ill-informed, IMO. They don't seem to get the messages most of his movies put out there for us. Do the right thing is my favorite movie from him, it was perfect all around. Bamboozled could have used a lot of editing and script reviewing, yes, but in the end, this did not affect his purpose and my comprehension.

Although I wouldn't call it his best film, it's definitely underrated and interesting.

This movie is genius and even better than Do the Right Thing, in my humble opinion!
