What is going on there? It looked like she had a clothes iron, but was shaking out ashes from inside it. Did clothes irons back then have you put some incendiary INSIDE that heated it up?
Yes, I think that's what it is. I talked with my parents today (Dad is 75) and when I described the scene to him, he said it was a charcoal iron. So she was dumping ashes out. I don't remember, but she was probably wearing something like an oven mitt when using it.
Seems, you're worse than me when it comes to details. ☺
Are you in real life also an agent? 🕵️
Or are you trolling me?
As said, before I saw your question in my (wrong) electric view Malèna cleaned her fireplace. Now I've checked the garden scene at about min 30 exactly.
Malèna just shakes the charcoal iron to get the ashes out.
No glove "oven mitt" or any other tool involved. 🧐
No, wasn't trolling. It's been 2 years since I watched the movie and only thought about it again when the tile popped up and I saw my old unanswered question. When I said "yes, I think that's what it is" I meant your image of the charcoal iron.
In any case, mystery solved. I was speculating that they might be very hot, even if you had a wooden handle, something burning inside that close to your hand might require protection. Or maybe not.
Ok, and thanks to your question my 'electric' view was corrected.
Hmmm, perhaps we both should get a vintage charcoal iron and exchange our experiences. ☺
