Amarcord Fillini ?

Didn't it come from under the coat of Amarcord Fillini ?. I can count 20 points of similarities.

reply

Yeah, and the only big one you need to tell is this: autobiographic story of a boy growing up in italy under fascism.
Are they bound to have similarities? Hell yes, they are bound to, big surprise there!

Another great discovery: You're genius. According to this theory, there are 100 similarities between Malena and Jaws.

reply

Seriously, what drugs are you on? I might like to try some.

reply

You are very civlized in your discussion. Perhaps we can talk more when you're not drunk .

reply

Why wait? One can have the best discussions ever while intoxicated.

reply

Of course, Amarcord comes to mind right away! But you can't forbid people to make movies about growing up in small Italian towns during the WWII, so there. The films are different, but they must be getting the image of the times and the places right if people who've never been there recognize them!

reply

Yeah but without the imagination of Fellini. Malena is more standard and typical and borrows some situations from Fellini.

reply

Sure Tornatore was somewhat inspired by Fellini, but Malèna also also has a good deal of Truffaut's short "Les Mistons", which I'm sure Tornatore also took as inspiration - teens on bicycles spying on a beautiful woman and her lover, the man leaves, the teens write a letter to her, then the death of the man is involved etc. But Tornatore took these ideas and made something new out of it all, which works very well as far as I'm concerned. :)
