When Renato skip school, his father is so abusive and humiliating him! Who agrees?

And the actor who played him (Luciano Federico) was absolutely horrible.

"Flash, Flash, I love you, but we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth!"

This is normal behaviour in 1940s Italy. Still is to a lesser extent today.

I thought the actor was great also.

It would have been normal behaviour anywhwere in the 1940s. Some rougher than others, but still, giving a teenage kid a beating was common.

I found Renato's father to be one the most noble movie characters ever.
