Any Italians out there?

I speak some Italian, but had trouble following the speech - or even picking out several words in each sentence, as I usually can with Italian films.

I know the film takes place in Sicilia, and that the dialect spoken there is quite different from what I learned. Was the Italian in Malèna authentic Sicilian? Or maybe my ears weren't up to speed that day!

Mille grazie!

Well, I am Sicilian. I couldn't understand a damn thing they said.

It's not just you, the dialect was hard to understand for most I would bet..

Is the dialect that different from Italian spoken in Sicily? What dialect were they speaking? Rome?

I am from Tuscany, not an expert of Sicilian dialect although I have a few Sicilian friends, but they obviously don' t go full dialect when speaking to me.

I could understand what they say in the film, and it sounded like proper Sicilian accent... I think most of the actors are Sicilian too.
