Ed....

So Im new to these boards but I recently watched this (not a huge anime fan but enjoy some of it).

I loved it but was sad the way it ended. It started when Ed left: that whole sequence where she walks away and Ein follows her and she looks back and runs off. At the time I didn't realize that was the last time we see her, I thought with two episodes remaining she was gonna come back, sadly she didnt. Then of course Spike's fate...

But I was wondering if anyone else was saddened when Ed left and didnt come back.

Of the Bebop crew, Ed was my least favorite... so I wasn't that sad over her departure. The ending like you said, is quite sad though. Very well done series, even if you're not really an anime fan.

Check out the Bebop Movie, that takes place before the end of the series.

I remember when I first watch the show, during Ed's good bye, I realized, this is it; it's all coming to an end. And yeah, it was sad.

Does IMDB hate apostrophes?

Actually Ed grew on me and that final scene where she leaves looks back and heads toward a crashing meteor (assuming to track down her father again) is the beginning of the end.

When I first saw the series I, like I said before, assumed she was coming back but was sad she didn't.

Not to mention that SPike and Jet don't end things on good terms.

reply

A year late, but they did end things on good terms. Spike came back while Jet was asleep on the couch. Jet fixed Spike some food and they shared a conversation, which was fairly light-hearted in the grand scheme of things. That was the last time they spoke as far as we know.

I thought it was really sad too, I suspect because a part of me kind of identifies with the crazy-girl-who-doesn't-belong-anywhere type that she represented on the show. She essentially leaves the crew before they realise they no longer have any use for her and she'll probably die alone because the only things she can rely on to remain a constant in her life are herself and her pet dog.

So yeah, that was pretty depressing.

The best/saddest part is Spike and Jet, who always acted ruff and gruff and against having Faye, Ein and Ed on board, stuffing their faces with their (Ed's, Fayes) hardboiled eggs....as though trying to pretend/deny they're sad/lonely the girls and Ein are gone.

Say, do you hear that? It's the sound of the Reaper.....

reply

Yes it was a bit sad. But the character was the comic relief and she wouldn't have fit in with the finale.
