Is she some sort of.....

Superhero?

for lack of a better word?

reply

By herself she is not.

But Amelie does not walk alone,

And if you are fortunate enough to have eyes to see the answer is very clear.

When Amelie walks in the paths as her new friend directs she is the superhero's superhero!

Look where no one else is looking and see what no one else sees.

Whispers: Thank you

Whatever gave you that idea? Compared to lead roles in other films I find Amélie probably the most "normal" person you could meet. She has a normal job, leads a normal life. She's playful (her pebble ricochets on the canal), a dreamer and yes, introverted. Doesn't sound much like a superhero to me. But she's definitely someone I can relate to.

Rome! By all means, Rome.

Then perhaps just a hero to some. She's a go-getter. If you won't pursue your dreams then she will go out of her way to help you follow your dreams. And that is pretty super.

reply

holy crap, i recently saw this movie and actually had a debate with a film nerd friend of mine about it qualifying as a super-hero movie : then i saw THIS thread !!! :) very cool

reply

its up for debate

personally i think the message is she ISN'T s superhero

merely a normal person who wants to live her life but feels she is empty i.e missing someone. So since she can't live her life she helps OTHERS do it

just like the part of the movie when she was a girl and the boy (who later she likes i.e guy chasing the bald repair man) wanted a sibling or someone they can be close with

no one LIVES their life and and b*tches too much is the point of the story

you merely think she's a hero because no one DOES anything, everyone is like a pawn in this stupid universe, so when someone does something positive you think "wow thats amazing" like they're a super hero

When in fact it was just a normal person to HELP you live your life, not necessary to fulfil your dreams but to move forward and do something nice.

like what i'm doing now, i could be needing some help with my computer, and a person near me would help me, most idiots wouldn't care if I had a problem or if they could help, its the ones that do we take notice but through our lives most of the idiots that we pass by could careless about us

just like i know a girl who smokes, she is in bad health, not that she's dying but in an unhealthy shape. She has people she calls friends, and i'm sure if she got ill they would help her. HOWEVER are they friend enough to speak up to STOP her from smoking to stop her from getting sick in the first place??

Thats not a hero, thats being human...the REAL essence of a human being

reply

Sorry for the late reply, but YES, MAYBE. Remember the one scene where she imagines herself as a female Zorro (Zorra?)- a superhero.

reply

no. the point of her character is that she's an ordinary woman doing things for other people. she manages to do it partly by luck but she's not magic. she may believe in magic and dreams and things do move because of her imagination, like the paintings etc but she's not a superhero
