Why is Jason so human in this one?

By JTM, his face was 50 shades of f-cked up. But in this one, he's got a full head of hair, teeth, defined facial features, and his skin's a normal color. What happened to this guy:

Edit - I don't want to spam the board so I'll also ask, how did Jason get back on the ship after the shuttle exploded?

Jason's face was melting from toxic waste in the image shown. It was being deformed as you watch it in JTM.

In Jason X, we are well into the future. It is clearly explained that Jason's body has unnatural regenerating abilities, so this easily explains why he has more hair, facial features, etc....

Don't forget there is a film between JTM and this, Jason goes to hell. In that one his body is destroyed and he gets a new one.

Do you ever get down on your hands and knees and thank God you have access to me and my dementia?

Have you actually seen the movie? If so, you clearly did not pay attention during the beginning. It was explained that Jason has a natural regenerative ability. The scientists come in to take Jason away with the intent to do more research on that ability. That's why he appears much more human in this movie. It also serves as a loose explanation as to why Jason is so hard to kill.

I just figured they were referring to the fact that he can't die. Since the beginning he's always gotten worse looking with each movie. So that he looks relatively normal in this one is weird.

Well, Jason actually CAN die. It's just REALLY, really hard to kill him. But no, they were referring to him being able to regenerate lost and damaged tissue. That's why he looks normal again. Yes, he did get worse-looking with each movie. His body decayed more and more and became pretty deformed by Jason Goes to Hell (as a result of the toxic waste, I assume). I don't know, I guess you could argue that by the time Jason X came around, Jason himself had considerable time to regenerate until he looked near-human again. In the previous movies, Jason was put down shortly after he was resurrected.

This is honestly just me trying to make sense of it, though. The reality of it is, the writer wanted a normal-looking Jason again, so he threw in cellular regeneration as a means to justify it.
