why does everyone hate on this movie?

yea its jason in space, but at least it makes sense how he got there and the character explained how, instead of it being a braindead "HAY GUYZ LETZ MAKE JASON IN SPACE"

___
Step Up 3-D received a PG-13 rating for "brief strong language and intense dance sequences."

I kinda enjoy the movie for it's pure cheese factor, but the atrocious score and bad sci-fi channel style special effects are why I dislike the film overall.

I've made a huge mistake.

reply

^ but you'd agree the Jason was still Jason (ie. still did Jason stuff, was still recognizable as the Jason from the previous movies), right ?!

reply

Those are the reasons I love this film so much. lol

I actually liked it. That's not to say it was Oscar-material or anything -- but what Jason movie is? Seriously, some people need to chill and realize that films like this aren't supposed to be taken seriously. I liked Jason X mainly for the space aspect of it, and it was nice that they bothered to insert a little bit of "background" as to why things were the way they were in 2455. I also liked the movie for its sense of humor; the movie knew what it wanted to be -- a cheesy slasher flick that didn't really have any purpose (i.e. a commentary to human society, a documentary, a movie teaching kids about love and sharing or whatever -- it was just a cheesy slasher flick).

I certainly enjoyed this more than the 2009 version.

Kay-Em was really likable. Also, I don't get why people are complaining about the special effects. It's from 2001, people! I don't remember any small-budget movies from around that time that had great special effects. Heck, even X-Men had bad CGI (especially for Mystique) in the first X-Men film, and did people complain?

At least it's a LOT better than Jason Goes to Hell.

I'm another one who begs the question as to why this one
is so hated. Its a Friday the 13th movie, which
means you turn your brain off before you even hit 'Play'

Personally, its my current favorite of the series.

reply

I agree, it's my favorite as well and is underrated. I watch it every Halloween.

This one is just cheesy fun, not meant to be taken seriously. I dont see why people dont get that?

reply

I can't really understand how any Friday the 13th fans could enjoy ANY of the films in the series if they take them all ultra seriously. If someone thinks Jason X is too daft how could they possibly handle... I don't know, ANY of the others. How about Part VII where Jason stalks a girl with psycho-kinetic powers? Or Part IV where Jason is defeated by a haircut? Never mind Part VIII where we are told that the New York sewers are flooded with toxic waste every night!

If you watch the movies in order, Jason X is clearly one of the better made and more enjoyable entries. However, I don't think most haters saw the previous movies that recently. I think they are judging Jason X against their memories of the other films. What's more I think a lot of the haters probably aren't sci-fi fans, so they have trouble appreciating what this film is trying to do.

reply

Agreed - all the Friday movies are bad, cheesy nonsense (and I love 'em!).

For me this one falls down only because of Jason's "transformed self". The idea of pumping him up was fine, but I hated the way he looked with that new mask.

It ruined something for me. I guess the iconic mask is an important part of what
I like about these movies (after the first two).

So even with a new setting, a hot robot girl and David Cronenberg (all aspects I liked), this one lost me when they took that awesome mask away.

That's the downfall, for me at least!

reply

I don't "hate" it but at the same time I don't "love" it. I don't think too much when I watch any of these movies because plot holes and bad acting are always part of slasher films and never take them seriously. I've watched them all, ever since I was a kid, but what I don't like about this movie is the comedy element (and really haven't like that about any of them...ie: the smiley face on the tree in Part 6)...not because I don't like comedy but didn't work for me in this one.

reply

It was decent. Pure cheese. Jason meets Alien.

For what it was trying to be - a corny non-stop gorefest with campy humor... it worked.

I agree. I think this one is better than half the ones in the series IMO. That face shattering bit is prolly my fav kill of them all. It's definitely a one movie gimmick tho. If uber Jason roams crystal lake it's prolly doomed 2 fail. I'll still prolly watch it tho. Jason rules!!!!

Best Film in the series. Yes I'm serious.

If only you could see what I have seen through your eyes.

I don't hate it. Actually, I love it. Plus, Uber Jason is so damn funny. Makes me laugh so much.

Personally, I thought a lot of it was good, but the cyborg character ruined the whole thing. For a cheesy movie, she was just too damn cheesy to take and I found the actress off-putting. They pretty much moved into the realm of slapstick with her stupid facial expressions while fighting. It was just one stupid idea too many.

Remove that character and the last 20 minutes of the film and it's really not bad at all. It starts out pretty good.
