Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress

They played that song Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress by the Hollies in the movie and it didn't come out until 1972. lol.

Good catch! I like how Dirty Dancing is set in the '60s but has '80s music.

Thanks. It makes me wonder how old the people are directing these movies. They probably weren't even born during the subject matter.

reply

Really? How did I miss that?

Sidenote: I swear the guy on that Common Law banner looks like Kip Pardue (Sunshine). I keep seeing it and thinking it's him.

But this was set in, what, 1971? Close enough, no?

reply

Hey, it made for a great montage scene, though. Sometimes we just have to give a little, right?

The film came out in 2000. Lol @ your weak math.

Um...what? They meant the song, no?

The movie came out in 2000...
The movie, however, was set in 1971.
the song was released in 1972... one year after the movie was set, therefore NOT available for use... unless the setting, includung audio, doesn't matter.
Might as well have folks driving around in Saturns and Geos, and let's see, Baby Got Back came out prior to the release of the film. Why not include it as well?!?!

reply

LOL, Baby Got Back would have been funny in the movie.

reply

Looks like "igetitfaster" got it a little slower.

Oh yeah...that just happened.

reply

Doesn't matter in this case because the song is using during a montage. It's not like they were listening to the song.

reply

actually, the song was released as a single in April 1972, but the album in which the song is featured on (Distant Light) came out in in the UK in October 1971, and in the US April 1972...so I guess you're argument is somewhat valid :)

reply

It would have been better if the music was really chronologically accurate -- summer and fall of 1971.

In fact there was all sorts of tremendous music that came out in that 6-month span; they would have had a great soundtrack almost no matter what they picked.

Getting the rights for some of the top hits (Led Zep, Stones, Who, Beatles/solo Beatles) might have been tough.

A lot of movies have musical anachronisms like this, they just use songs that fit the basic time peiod. In Almost Famous, several of the albums we see in Anita Miller's record collection hadn't yet been released when the movie is set.

what difference does it make if certain music from a certain year is used in the movie? honestly if you're just going to see a movie because of the music? then save your money and attend a concert or buy an mp3/ipod dark shadows (2012) and guardians of the galaxy (2014) both were set in the 70s and both featured music from the late 60s /early 70s.. but I could care less what songs were used because I enjoyed both movies. lots of college and nfl teams play long cool woman in a black dress during football season. just like you get what you give was a pretty popular song when both of the flinstones movies were released

"Touchdoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooown Auburn"

reply

If the music isn't actually being played by someone in the movie, then what difference does it make what year it was released?

By that standard, I've got an even bigger anachronism for you: the instrumental music used in this movie was first released in 2000! That's 29 years after the time the movie is set in! How did they miss that?

Well if you think that is weird there is a song in La Bamba that a song gets played in the music that wasn't yet out at the time it takes place
