I thought it was part of his vigilante, identity concealing quest to honor his dead wife, but in all the flashbacks where she's still alive, it's already dyed. Interesting choice for a married insurance investigator.

I have known people, who had light hair as kids, and whose hair always remained just as light (if not lighter) than this character's. And it was all natural, no "dye jobs".
So your claim needs a bit more elaboration than "it just looks that way, obviously, duhh". It's not obvious at all without a further explanation as to what (supposedly) makes it so obvious.
The character's hair color is just supposed to be a dirty blonde, I guess.
