Why does Leonard change into Jimmy's clothes?

Just after the murder, Leonard starts changing into Jimmy's clothes? Why does he do that? It might make sense once Teddy spills the beans but why does he do it on his own? Remember: no Jimmy's clothes = no Natalie's place = no license plate details (at least during the normal duration of the film).

It's been a really long time since I've watched this, but I think I always assumed he burned everything of his own once he found & killed 'John G', so he wouldn't leave evidence.

Or he was just crazy altogether & none of what he did could be reasoned with a sane mind.

Because wearing the dead guy's suit would not be a strong evidence? In the film Lenny's response is somewhere along the lines of "Why not?" and yeah, you could say crazy, but this came only after he heard Teddy's explanation. I think it's a gap in the script, personally. He should have changed the clothes after Jimmy's death. It would have made more sense as a conscious decision.

Reasonable question! Bothered me too. Maybe it's a gap in a scenario or maybe... it reveals what maniac and combinator Leonard really is! He deliberately adds adventures to his life, creating a point for existence. Psychotic daredevil.

Clues to add: Lenny DELIBERATELY adds Teddy's plate as one of "John G" to hunt him and kill him at the end. He's a f@cking criminal not deserving an empathy!

Don't be an idiot, the point of that scene and the whole movie is to show us that we don't know who we really are and what we are capable of. All the *beep* that we can't cope with psychologically gets repressed deep inside, why? To protect us from going completely mad, mad enough to commit suicide, or go on a killing spree, this way we can carry on reproducing OBLIVIOUS.

Driving Jimmy's car and wearing Jimmy's clothing would eventually lead to who Jimmy really was whether John G the wanted criminal or an error that could lead to Leonard's arrest and detention in a mental institution. He doesn't seem to care if he gets caught.

But, basically, it leads to the message to meet Natalie. Natalie is a real key figure in the film.
