How Was Peaches' Father Punishing Her?

After he kicked the boyfriend's a**, he has her sitting on the edge of the bed while thumbing through the bible and reading passages to her. She seems to be IN PAIN and crying/whimpering. Was he doing something physical to her?

Well, later on he makes Peaches do a weird 'reenactment' of his wedding to her mother, which was pretty messed up.
The way Peaches was acting beforehand made me think that he had made her do this before, and so she knew what was coming.
