So did Mickey's mother die?

So did Mickey's mother die?She seemed to be alive after the caravan burned to the ground.

And if she's alive then why have the wake?

Yes, she died.
In what way did you feel that she seem to be alive?

reply

Well,Turkish DID mention that she was smoking in the caravan next to the one that was burned when he went to the park the next day.In the monologue he mentions feeling stupid about that.

So she couldn't have died if she was in another caravan.Obviously the one that burned was empty.

But what I don't understand is why they still had the wake if she wasn't dead.

What he actually said was that he felt stupid asking Mickey to fight when "his mom is still smoking next to him" - all this while we see the charred remains of the caravan...smoking.
I take that as him meaning he feels stupid asking him to fight while his burned-to-death mother is still smoking.

"Racoon, Rog?"

reply

So then who is the woman who walks out of the caravan smoking in that scene? You see a blonde woman walk out of a caravan smoking a cigarette in that scene.

No you don't. You see Jayson Fleyming's character walking out saying 'what are you two doing here? Ye've got some tiles on ya!' Then Mickey tells him to 'fack off' and a brunette woman comes to the caravan door telling him to come back in, not a blond.

Turkish says 'they decided to burn Mickey's mums caravan while she was asleep in it' then a scene later he says 'how stupid do I feel asking him to fight with his mum still smoking next to us'. Then there's the fact they have a memorial service and a wake. Then Turkish says at the end 'it previously occurred to me the pikey took his mothers demise a little too lightly'. Out of all this context you're insisting she survived because of something you thought you saw?

She's dead!

Yours sincerely, General Joseph Liebgott

You're confused. He's referring to the smoking corpse of Mickey's mom. She is dead.

Watch the movie again, the answers you seek are within...

"I do what I say and I say what I mean"

If she was still alive after being burnt to a crisp I hope they shot her in her brain.

No she wasn't the Human Torch, she died.

So it's look pretty clear by many but i do have this doubt. I'm almost sure by the end that mickey's mother IS alive as Turkish says " It had previously ocurred to me that he'd taken the demise of his mother rather lightly "
so maybe it was all setted up and Mickey since the first fight knew that he could bet on himself and also that he would be retaliated for that so his mother moved to somewhere safe, but why the wake? Maybe they were just playing? Maybe just sad for loosing the new caravan (lol)? Another reason to get drunk? I don't understand this part of my theory.

reply

She was in fact alive. And the line " It had previously ocurred to me that he'd taken the demise of his mother rather lightly" is the key.

--------------------------------------------
I own you.

reply

man, that's what i said, the problem I was talking about is why they have a wake for her.

reply

They didn't. The wake thing was happening in Turkish's mind.

--------------------------------------------
I own you.

reply

Yes that is interesting, cause the cene is shown while Turkey is talking about it, anyway after that mickey pretend he is drunk or whatever.

reply

And if they did have the wake, they were a diversion.

I'm pretty sure she's alive too, who would take the death of their mother lightly? When Turkish says that at the end, that's when I knew she was still alive.

reply

Mickey's mother is dead. The line you're quoting means that Turkish had previously thought it unusual for Mickey not to seek revenge on Brick Top and his thugs for burning Mickey's mother alive. Once Turkish witnessed Mickey's actual plan, which was to bet on himself and get brutal revenge on Brick Top and gang, he realized that Mickey had not taken the demise of his mother so lightly after all.

reply

@Critomaton Thanks for explaining it to these yokels. I can't believe there are people who actually think she's alive.

reply

Same here. I initially thought that they were just taking the p iss but apparently not.
Mickey's mum is dead, you feckin' eedjits!

I guess they thought Mickey and the gypsies planned their elaborate revenge on Brick-Top just for something to do on the spur of the moment.

reply

No, I thought they did it to see Turkish and Tommy's neck and thought Mickey and the Irish Gypsies took out Brick Top to avoid him getting them first. That guy made sense of what he said.

Yup^^^ she DID die. But Mickey didn't react fully, he waited til the right time to get his revenge (after he won the last fight) and had his fellow pikeys shotgun the man who killed his mother. Fantastic.
Never underestimate a pikey.

Your question is painful for those of us who've seen this movie dozens of times. The answer is NO, she died!!!
