Wait? Didn't they already have the combination?

The scene where Boris shoots Frankie 4 fingers and they put the stone in the case, didn't they just open the case? If the guy is blind folded wouldn't he have to tell them the combination?

Yes it's been mentioned as a bit of a plot hole. I doubt Frankie would have volunteered the combination and in any case even if he did I'm sure Boris would have threatened it out of them. What's amazing is Boris doesn't question it. It seems Sol could easily have put it in his pocket and simply told Boris they put it in the case.

Yes but he figures (and rightly so) that they would not be clever enough to do that. Plus after shooting Frankie in the head in front of them I think he he has their attention. I think he thinks they wouldn't try to pull any BS.

That's a fair point but it still doesn't resolve the OP.

Oh yeah I agree. It still leaves a huge hole. Fun flick nevertheless.

Here's an apparently early version of the script: http://www.imsdb.com/scripts/Snatch.html
There might be other plot holes and the scene goes a little differently, but regarding your question: Frankie (said that he) couldn't tell them the combination, he could only do it when he sees it (visual memory only), so they had to take off the blindfold

Why did he even put it back in the case to begin with? That part didn't make any sense, but I suppose those guys weren't very bright.

I noticed this when I was watching it, as well. This isn't a very good explanation, but the only thing I could come up with is that we're to assume he had told them the combination and they opened it, but none of them bothered to remember the combination. Which, of course, doesn't explain why they'd ever put it back.

In a deleted scene, Frankie opens the case for them.
