Watching this movie one more time, I don't believe Mel Gibson was right for the part because his parts are way too cheese and don't turn out more awkward. I think if they had put Tom Cruise, someone more sexy and charismatic in this role at the time this movie was made, it would turned out to be a better one.

I disagree. I don't think Cruise would have handled the chauvinist pig lines believably. He's too soft. You'd just think of him jumping up and down on Oprah's couch.

The movie was a huge success. At the time Gibson was one of the most popular “sexy” actors in the world.

Kinda funny how Helen Hunt just disappeared off the radar.
