Well, in the sense that she was born in 1984 and played an 8th grader. I mean that wouldn't be a big deal, but she just looked a lot older than 13 or 14 in the show, and that really bothered me. Especially when she was hanging out with friends. Just glad that they never had any episodes with her like in Lizzie McGuire where she and Miranda were gonna buy bras because it just wouldn't seem right. It's weird also because Ren definitely acted soooo much older than a junior high student.
I remember seeing Jr. High kids who looked like teachers when I was growing up. So, while she definitley would stand out, it wouldn't be so implausible for somebody who looks like her to be in Junior High.
Saw a cool episode today.. Ren and Louis stuck in a Ferris wheel, reminiscing about Louis's first day of Jr. High. They had clips of the episode that were pretty old (one clip showed Ren with a backdrop that had 1997 on it). This may have been the show's pilot, which didn't get picked up until 2000. If so, Christy was 13, just like Ren, when the show was supposd to start.
I'm not real sure where I'm going with this, I just thought it was neat seeing Christy and Shia looking real young. Pretty funny.
Well Ren was supposed to act older, it was a big part of her role that Ren would be very mature and an overachiever, so I didn't find it that weird. I'm 16 but a lot of people say I look 13 but have the maturity of an adult, while my best friend is 16 but people say she looks 18 and yet she loves to act really crazy like an average 16 year old.
well the fact that her friends looked young compared to her had to be intentional. They weren't her friends as much as she was their older role model to those two girls. And in 2000, she was only 16 years old. I'm 16 and she looks completely believable as a 16 year old. Are you sure she's not supposed to be in 10th grade and louis is supposed to be in 8th grade at the beginning of the series?
Well, in the Even Stevens movie, in the beginning, there's that graduation scene; in that scene, Ren is giving her speech, and she makes a reference at the fact that they are moving on to high school. Which would obviously mean that they are graduating from the 8th grade. Which to me, is stupid, since, by the time all the Steven's kids star in the movie, they all had to at least be of high school age, if not older. If Ren just graduated from the 8th grade, then that meant that Louis and his friends are still in middle school.
Anyway, I am babbling, but the timeline, in terms of ages, didn't really add up for Ren and Louis. The older brother's age fits, since we know he is/was in college and they made many a reference to his high school career as a sports star.
I always thought the older brother was in high school, at least at the beginning of the show. That aside, by the end of the series, they all looked too old. But I'm fairly certain Christy Carlson Romano wasn't much older than her character Ren at the beginning of the series. So I think it was just that she was tall, and they insisted on dressing her in those horrible twinsets. But Ren was supposed to be mature anyway. I believe she was about a year older than Louis, and when the series started they were both in middle school. (7th and 8th grade, respectively) I still think it was a great show, very funny, even if the characters never seemed to age as they were supposed to. :P I don't know why they couldn't have just advanced them to high school once they got old enough, that would have made better sense.
