The Steven Siblings' Ages

How old are Donnie, Ren and Louis supposed to be?

Is Donnie suppose to be a lot older than Ren and Louis?

How much older is Ren to Louis?

I think Donnie was supposed to be five years older than Louis. And that Ren's supposed to be a year older then Louis.

And honestly, I'm down like the economy

I was always under the impression that Donnie was 18, Ren was 14 and Louis was 13

Their ages never bothered me until the movie came out; when the movie aired, that was when I was REALLY annoyed. I say that, because you have an actress who obviously looks to be 17-ish, but is graduating the 8th grade and entering high school. You then have her younger brother who looks like he is 14,15, and is supposed to be in the 6th or 7th grade. Donnie is the only one I could easily accept just because he had graduated high school and is supposed to be in college, if not already (and even he looked like he was in his mid-20's).

Donnie was probably a mid/late Spring Junior (possibly Senior, though I get the impression he is still in high school in S3) during Tight End in Traction so 17-18 years old towards the end of Season 2.

The episode after that was Influenza the musical, which indicates Louis is in the 7th grade and 12/13 in age. (Ren obviously was in the 8th grade) Scrub day during Season 1 clearly places Louis in the 7th grade.

It's possible Ren went onto 9th grade and Louis 8th grade for Season 3 and that LJHS runs from grades 7-9. Uncommon but not unheard of.

Season 3 appears to have both Fall and Spring aspects esp. the Surf's Up episode where they are on Spring Break. Regarding the start of the final episode where they are waiting for election results, the specific mention of a "Vacant seat" indicates this was a special election and not a November election, so the episode could have happened at anytime during the year and after Spring Break.

Obviously, the writers did pay much attention toward which time of year most episodes occurred excluding a few choice episodes. This lack of setting with respect to time makes it easier to use the few time-specific episodes to set up a basic chronology.

They start off Louis 7th, Ren 8th and Donnie 11th maybe 12th.

Season 1 looks like Fall running past Christmas.
Season 2 appears to be the lion's share of Spring semester/quarters
Season 3 seems to go the full year gambit with the movie several months later with Ren's graduation
