spanish guitar song???

does anyone know the performer and title of the spanish guitar song played about mid-way through this movie???

reply

I believe it's "Classical Gas" by Mason Williams

... "Spanish guitar" is a reference to the instrument, not the country the song comes from. It is one of the many names for the "classical guitar".

The Name of the song is Classical Gas my Mason Williams. One of my favorite songs. BTW: I've never seen or heard of the dish, I was just looking up Mason Williams and stumbled apon this film.

Hmmm... I don't dispute you may know what you're talking about on this subject, but the one in the movie DOES have the accompanying brass.

I LOVE that piece.

and whenever you see a version of classical gas with the title claiming to be by eric clapton, usually it's the version done by mark knopfler.

jesus christ. people on imdb message boards are stupid.

"Mason Williams did two versions of the song. The original recording had a full band and brass section. He then re-recorded it two years later as a classical guitar solo."

He also re-recorded it years later, along with several other tracks in a colaboration with Chip Davis's Mannheim Steamroller project. the name of the resulting CD was, of course, Classical Gas. The cover features a lucite guitar with a gasoline dispensing nozzle stuck into the sound hole.

While its a nice recording, I prefer the guitar-only version.

BTW -- Mason Williams originally composed Classical Gas to impress folks at parties, according to the Mannheim Steamroller liner notes.

Yep-Classical Gas. Thought it was by the Australian guitarist John Williams...but he's called Mason Williams on the soundtrack. Am I getting confused?

Here's a link to the soundtrack:

It's a good album-I especially like the following Australian songs [track numbers]:

1. Real Thing, The - Russell Morris
3. Classical Gas - Mason Williams
4. Loved One, The - The Loved Ones
6. Wings Of An Eagle, The - Russell Morris

Just a little:

Mason Williams - composer/guitarist - plays the cracking version of Classical Gas on this soundtrack.

John Williams - Australian, studied guitar in London under Segovia.

Also not to be confused with John Williams (American composer) who also has done a few things musical at the movies...

I found Classical Gas on a chillout compilation CD a year ago, and I just knew I knew it from somewhere - took me ages to figure it out that I knew it from the Dish.

Fantastic music, fantastic film, fantastic actors, fantastic everything. Man, I love CG...

I love Tommy Emmanuel's (Aussie guitarist) version of Classical Gas, with the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra. Really rocks through the headphones.

The song "Classical Gas" was also recorded by my high school band back in 1972.

I'd avoid that version at all costs.

I had the girl, I had the place, I had the mood. I put on Classical Gas by some high school band and she left in tears vowing never to return. You sir, and your musically inept school friends are completely responsible for me continuing to be a virgin.

LOL!

I agree with everyone that this is a great movie and a wonderful soundtrack.

Anyone not recognizing Classical Gas must be younger than me, or had very strict parents that did not allow modern music in the house in the 60's/70's.

I was learning how to walk when Armstrong walked on the moon, but I know Classical Gas, nevertheless. You'd have to be living under a rock not to have heard it at one time or the other.
I finally decided that it is time for me to work on this piece (watched The Dish on TV yesterday). Just put in an order for the guitar sheet music :-). Yay!
