When Earl and Ron are in the kitchen eating steak....Ron asked Earl why he was in prison...and he never answers...is it stated anywhere else in the movie or book as to why he was in prison?

sharetheres probably only two reasons he could be there for 18 years, either murder or selling hard class A drugs.
shareWell Ron says something along the lines of "Doesn't it bother you that I'm not a big time thief" (something like that) and Earl says "No, it doesn't. It really doesn't." That leads me to believe he did something harder than selling drugs, even something like Heroin. It must be bigtime thieving (I love using that word) or murder.
