Dude, I was randomly flipping through channels and all of a sudden, I flip past this movie on HBO. I was like "Holy, *beep* Antony and the Johnsons!" What an obscure thing to come across. Meh movie, but seeing Antony for a couple of minutes was worth it. I never even knew he was in a movie. Props to whoever picked him up for a cameo.

I just caught it on HBO too. I wasn't really watching the movie, but when I heard Antony's distinctive vocals, I immediately focused. He sings in a kind of convicts' cabaret. There is quite a bit of dialogue spoken over it, but it's a trip to see Antony up there on screen. It's about 15 to twenty minutes into the film.

If you're a fan, sure, rent the film if you can, but I don't think it's worth spending a lot of time, money or effort trying to track it down.

The movie itself is a standard prison genre movie with little new to say (i.e.: prison is very unpleasant, yet some people find ways to survive it). What saves the movie are good performances from the solid cast.

This film is what exposed me to Antony and The Johnsons. I'm really into them now.

You should see the film, though. It's a really terrific ensemble-style piece. Has good insight into prison life (not that I can attest to having been there).

The song he sings, is it a real song of his? Is there a name for it? I've been trying to find it for a long time, or even a clip from the movie of him singing it.

The song is called Rapture and it is a real song of his.. and it's a gorgeous song.

If you're up for downloading some of their stuff, you're welcome to PM me and I can give you a short list of some of my favorites.
