You want realistic watch one of the hundreds of documentaries

They are constantly on Tv on every prison in the country, they show you what it's like, this film is B.S., I've been there, it's a much more complex & stressful environment, especially doing months in the hole(RHU,SHU). This movie doesn't convey any realities in the proper way IMO, the message is presented wrong, it has a real hokey feel to it. It's a load of crap.

What is the most realistic prison film?

Is rape so rampant and frequent? Looks like they got nothing else to do than rape or get raped.

Phew a realistic prison film, I don't have anything in my recent memory, if I've seen one it's buried so deep in my ratings it would take me a week to find it. HBO's Oz was a decent representation because it showed the everyday drama combined with the everlasting high tension that there is.

The problem is, most writers and directors won't commit to making a film about realism instead of sensationalism. Rape happens, but nothing like depicted in your average film. That's something that's so overly cliched in film that it has the general public hypnotized into thinking that you can't go to prison without getting raped and or shanked before you leave, it's bullsh!t but people in general seem to be fascinated with it anyway. Film's are generally too short to convey truth inside of prisons and people just eat up the violence depicted so it's a rarity to see something true to reality and the real issues that are common to all inmates other than just rape. Prison politics are extremely complex. I would check out some of the many documentaries and shows that give you a real insight into the issues. Or I would recommend watching the Oz series if you haven't seen it, it was a solidly written show.

This film is just pure lunacy.

Gordon Ramsey's " Ramsey behind Bars " was a good show. It really gave you a sense of the tension and the bickering between inmates. It was strange that he was trying to give the imates some skills they could take with them to the outside in order to make a living, yet the guards and the whole prison administration seemed so bent on destroying his program.

His buisness he set up in the prison for the inmates worked not because of the prison administration, but in spite of it.
