Prison movies


Does anybody know any other good prison movies, also I remember a show where there was an Aryan Brotherhood and black muslims and other groups am i thinking of Oz

RIOT,1969 starring Gene Hackman and Jim Brown,filmed at the Arizona state prison.
THE JERICO MILE,1979 TV movie directed by Micheal Mann,filmed at a California state prison.
STIR CRAZY,1980 comedy,worth watching just for a few scenes."that's right we bad"

The unjustly neglected late 70's film "On the Yard" is quite good. Ditto the made-for-TV movie "The Glass Cage" with Alan Alda and Vic Morrow.

"Ghosts...of the Civil Dead" ... it's amazing but so very effed up. Definitely worth the watch but not for the faint hearted.

I've seen nearly all the prison films mentioned on this thread. Two wonderful prison escape films I'd like to mention - both French & B&W - are Bresson's A Man Escaped and the even better Jacques Becker classic Le Trou. As far as realistic prison film goes, I don't think Ghosts of the Civil Dead can be matched or repeated. Be warned: it is an extremely unpleasant film to view, in fact its one of the most disturbing pieces of film ever made on any subject!

Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean..neither tarnished nor afraid..
