A Total Load of Hollywood Bleeding Heart B.S.
I don't know the situation in Navy diving school. When I went through military flight training in the 1960s, blacks could not be washed out. They either graduated, quit, or killed themselves. Not everyone is cut out to be a military pilot. There was a black Navy student helicopter pilot who was washed out. He claimed racial discrimination and Washington ordered him to be put back into training. He washed out again, claimed racial discrimination, and was reinstated. Finally, he killed himself, an instructor, and another student on a training flight. Hal Holbrook's character was a total joke and a disservice to the Navy. Among other things, he was 75 years old when this film was made.
