The news report
Okay, Men of Honor is a good movie. Bit crowd pleasing and with one or two plot holes in it but the part I enjoyed most was not Cuba Gooding Jr's struggles with adversity or De Niro's hard ass diving instructor, but the news broadcast in the middle about the nuke. If such an event really did happen, it shows that journalists had way more freedom to information back in the 50s than they do, I mean they might as well say:
"Good evening and welcome to FOX News. Tonight's top story, a B-52 bomber plunges into the Atlantic, losing its payload of three nuclear weapons. On the plus side, everyone's okay and two of the bombs are already back safely in our hands. On the down side though, it's still not clear where the third is. We now go straight to our Royal Navy spokesman:"
"Thanks Tom. Yes the reports are true. We have lost the most dangerous weapon on the entire planet. Yes, a nuke. Where it is we do not know, but in our possession it is not! Still, we've got some guys looking for it right now. Hope they find it before the Russians do and heh heh, you'd better believe they're looking. Boy, I hope this doesn't damage anyone's impression of the Navy..."
