Why was Carl put in the diving suit?

I missed most of this movie, and only caught the courtroom scene...?
I also had it on mute, lol. (I'm going to watch it again sometime.)

But at one point, the put the white scuba diving outfit on him...?
Why is that?

lol Dude, do you really want the movie to be spoiled for you? It's one of those explanations that you if you don't have the background story, then you won't understand it at all. You should just watch the movie entirely, or if you want I can tell you the whole story briefly. What do you prefer?

The whole story briefly, if you don't mind.
I have a feeling it'll be awhile before I rent it. lol

Thanks, in advance. :D

I don't want to disapoint anyone who might come on that board message. I hate spoiling movies for people, but if you insist, ok. Here goes nothing:

*Spoilers* *Spoilers* *Spoilers* *Spoilers* *Spoilers* *Spoilers* *Spoilers*

Carl wanted to be a Diver wholeheartedly. Regardless how discriminative and discouraging and challenging it would be. Anyhow, he becomes a Diver through all those trails and obstacles. Somewhere a long the way one of his legs gets cut off (this part I'm not going to spoil) because of an incident.

The Navy wanted to discharge him. So, with his fake leg, he persues to become full-time active duty diver. And he had to prove it in court that he is still capable of being a full-time active diver by taking 12 steps in the new diving suit.

So, there you go. That is just as brief as I possibly could make it so that I won't spoil it badly.
