Brashear's Rank

I'm sorry to be ignorant, but at the end when Sunday salutes Brashear, is Brashear higher ranking? Was he a master chief at that point and Sunday a Chief?

Thanks, it has confused me before, especially after Sunday's demotion.

Come on guys! Was Brashear higher rank than Sunday at the end??????

reply

Yes. Brashear was a Senior Chief and Sunday was a Chief. That is how he introduced himself to the court.

Thanks for yoyr reply, I thought he was. That makes the story that much more intense and powerful

NCO's (Non Commissioned Officers) do NOT salute each other in normal circumstances. The salute exchanged at the end was simply a signal of the respect Chief Sunday had for Chief Brashear. Nothing offical, just an "attaboy">

Are / were you in the service? Although I do agree with you in this case, another poster stated on a different thread that at the time of the events, Senior Master Chiefs in the Navy were saluted by lower NCOs and enlisted. Later they were not...

I do not know that much Navy history but I know that each service has their own traditions.
