How accurate was this movie?

???

Hey Alex! Read Timeline. Hey Cinemaniac! Read Next.

Sunday never actually existed. He was kind of all of the mean officers put together as one man. Other details I'm not sure about.

reply

it says on the extras they tried to make it as accurate as possible

'Had enough? Turning Back? Are You Mad? Are You Madder Than... Brian Mad Of Madcastle? Are You?'

reply

According to the real Carl Brashear IIRC during an interview with the Today Show back in 2000, he said the scene with the Russian submarine snagging his airline was made up to add to dramatic effects.

reply

That is a shame that they did that. I sort of figured that some things were not truthful in this film.

You are correct.
Brashear's real instructor at diving school, Henry Rutherford, actually encouraged and helped him through the training. Unfortunately, it seems he was either unaware or looked the other way to the harassment Brashear got from others in the program.

reply

I remember seeing a brief portion a documentary of sorts about this... following losing his leg, the real Brashaer would train by putting on large weights on a rope, and the rope around his neck, and climb up and down ladders, so his comeback was something he fought and trained hard for.

Why did they not do something like the real Master Chief did in real life instead of something different? I am prior Navy myself and have a lot of great respect for the Master Chief.
