Why does Chief Sunday hate Hanks so much?

Actually the decompression disease ("the bends") Sunday developed was not caused by diving without a complete dive suit, but rather from an extended period of time at depth ("bottom time") without adequate decompression time. They talked about decompressing him, but the chopper crashed before decompression could be accomplished.
So Hanks was right on this. If Sunday had not disobeyed Hanks' orders and gone back down, he may well have not developed problems.
