Did america have a 50mt nuke?

At the start the reporter on the TV said that a B-52 Bomber crashed into the mediterainian with a 50megaton nuke. I thought that the only 50megaton+ nuke was russians Tsar Bomba. Am i wrong or is the movie wrong.

That's wrong. I believe the largest ever detonated by the US was 15 MT.

No, you're wrong, he is right. The biggest nuke and also the biggest bomb ever detonated by man was the Tsar Bomb (50 Megatons) by the Russians.

The biggest American nuke was the 24Mt Mk 41. The Palomares nukes were about 1Mt.

And yes, the 50Mt Tsar Bomba was the largest nuke ever.

The incident the scene was based on was the 1966 Palomares crash. The weapon lost was a mk28 thermonuclear bomb. The highest yield for the Mk 28 mod5 was 1.45mt.
