But I'm sure those of us still here had decided just as much.

What is with that website? First that they give it the royal degree as an official cult film and then the comments are full of ignorant self indulgent side paths into their personal prejudices and pathetic little lives.
OK, here it is. It's officially from ME. This film is a cult classic. Has been almost from the get go. It's violent but intelligent. It doesn't spoon feed you answers but leaves things open to interpretation...just like an intelligent film does. It has some of the best dialogues ever scripted and most interesting characters that you love to hate, but still love. The beginning is the funniest use of a blast of obscene language ever. The slow car chase is inventive and also hilarious.
Juliette Lewis is AWFUL in this film. What's with that waddle walk? Hasn't she ever seen a pregnant woman walk? But the rest are so good that one can still enjoy this film. Her father, Goeffrey Lewis, who plays Abner, is terrific. James Caan is the best he's ever been. Scott Wilson was born for this part and he basically repeated it on the TV show CSI over two of its seasons. Benicio Del Toro helped McQuarrie build these characters and did a great job doing that and in his acting. I don't think I've liked anything else he's done 1/2 as much despite the fact that he's a fine actor. Ryan Phillippe just melted into the role of Parker. Fine acting.
And anyone who doesn't understand when that blogger writes that Parker is the closest we get to a hero in this film, needs to watch it again. "A heart is the only thing that has value. If you have one, get rid of it."
"I'd never ask you to trust me. It's the cry of a guilty soul."
A heart is the only thing of value. If you have one, get rid of it.I think I'll make that my new signature.
