Much Better Than Most Give It Credit

Why do some people hate on this movie? It is better than most of the same genre.

I think this is a great movie. But... if you haven't actually watched it or watched it while doing other things... it could come off as a Tarentino rip-off. I think that's where a lot of the hate comes from.

And I could definitively see people hating the two lead characters. Sure, they're not complete monsters but they do a lot of monstrous things.

Why? Do you think people hate it? I think a lot of people haven't seen it, which is a shame. Even though I'm not necessarily a fan of shoot 'em ups, I think that most people who are would like this movie very much.

I am a fan of this movie, but for other reasons than the gun play.

To each their own...I'm just sidling over to my copy and popping it in the player for another enjoyable viewing. "Hey, dip****. Get your greasy ass off the f k 'in car!"

Ain't life grand where we can celebrate a variety of tastes and opinions? Oh, I agree some people, obviously such as yourself, won't enjoy this film. I was convinced I would dislike it too, as it's not my normal cup of tea. But to my pleasure and surprise, it's one of my all time favorite films.

I gave this movie an 8/10 a long time ago (watching it again right now), and I'm tempted to revise my score to a 9/10. One of my all-time favs also.

It's a shame... I've loaned this DVD to some friends & family who got turned off right away by the scene with Sarah Silverman at the start (the cursing - I come from a strict religious upbringing, they can handle sex & violence but cursing is Taboo), and never finished watching it. To me, it was one of the best parts of an epic movie (I hesitate to call it a "film").

Ooh, a Mitch Hedberg fan. I do NOT appreciate when dialogue or emotion in a film is replaced with so called hip abuse of language. BUT, in TWOTG, that long almost poetic use of profanity at the beginning is our entree into Parker and Longbaugh's world and a glimpse at the tough guy/girl posers who think they are cool. Great beginning to an interesting film.

My email sig is another Mitch quote:

My apartment is infested with koala bears. Its the cutest infestation ever. Much better than cockroaches. I turn the lights on and a bunch of koala bears scatter. I'm like, come back! I want to hold one of you, and feed you a leaf.

That said, yeah I don't like cussing for the sake of cussing. But when Sarah got punched in the grill, it was worth it lol. And yes it sets up the movie brilliantly.

The film's pacing is it's biggest drawback. And though there are other flaws, I'm still a fan of this movie. Despite its flaws, I find the pointlessly intricate story highly entertaining, and I love the action scenes and the brilliant western score. Not a masterpiece, but a fun movie for what it is.

Well, jaysilentbob, there's where we disagree. I do think this is a masterpiece. Not a pretty landscape or a marble statue, and not even a exquisite portrait. A better analogy is a long, sweet freestyle jazz masterpiece. It's jarring and unexpected and jags left when you think you see where it's going. But a masterpiece nevertheless. AND like freestyle jazz, it's not for everyone.
