I had never read the trivia section of this film, until today, and didn't know that the violence had to be scaled back for the R rating.
Does anyone know if an unrated version was ever released or if there are plans for one?
I vaguely remember this when the film came out; I thought it was more a case of the film being resubmitted for a rerating and coming out with an 'R', rather than cuts being made to the violence. However, this was almost fifteen years ago now, so I can't remember for sure.
