Ryan Phillippe ruins any movie he's in.

shareIn terms of quality performance, he's five for five with me:
The Way of the Gun
Crash
Chaos
Flags of Our Fathers
Breach
He came home and fell down an elevator shaft onto some bullets.

So I read your comment on Jarhead, "why does everyone hate this movie" and I'm going to cut you some slack because that was seriously funny.
But you're attacking one of my favorite films. Ryan disappears into his part of Parker. He's almost unrecognizable; he totally becomes his nihilistic criminal character. If you can't get past that it's Ryan, too sad.
"I'd never ask you to trust me. It's the cry of a guilty soul."
Watch Franklyn and say that.
Latest film seen: Orphan (2009) 8/10
I had to turn this movie off after five minutes because his attempt at an regional accent sounds like a speech impediment.
shareThat "regional accent" he was using was his native Philly/Delaware accent. Yes, some accents sound strange to the ear. But that doesn't mean they are put on.

Was it? That's cool.
It sounded like a young Al Pacino. And according to Ain't It Cool News, it's exactly how McQuarrie sounds, too.
Get off my plane.
I thought he was amazing in Breach... Just my two cents.

Haven't seen Breach in a looooong time, he was great
shareIt was a long time ago I saw this, but I remember the way he talked and I have to say it's a bit ridiculous. Not so much the accent, more that it's like he's trying with every single word to make it sound as "cool" as possible. Coolness is nice when it feels genuine, trying to be cool by talking a certain way is just a shallow imitation of coolness, very far from the real thing. Uncool people trying to come of as cool = very lame.
shareHe really does and he always looks uncomfortable.
